Tillydrone is a district in Aberdeen, situated to the north of Aberdeen City Centre, and North West of Old Aberdeen. The area is bordered to the North by the beautiful River Don. Tillydrone is nearby to Bridge of Don, Seaton and Woodside.
The district features many local amenities including Tillydrone Post Office, Coop and Broadsword Pub. As well as this, Tillydrone Community Centre also lies in the area which aims to provide various activities for different age groups in the community.
Tillydrone is a popular option amongst students as the University of Aberdeen’s King’s College Campus (the main campus of the university) is in close proximity. If you are attending Robert Gordon University you may wish to switch your search to an area in the South of the city, like Queens Cross.
Also in the area is Seaton Park, one of the biggest parks in the northern half of the city with the stunning St Machar’s Cathedral just to the South. The park is often frequented by students because it lies between the University of Aberdeen’s main campus and biggest halls – Hillhead.
There are also several schools nearby including Donbank Primary School, St Machar Primary School and Donview Nursery; so families often choose to rent in the area. If Tillydrone doesn’t appeal though, Mannofield in the West End is a viable alternative.
The area of Old Aberdeen, which encompasses Tillydrone, Old Town and Seaton, is probably the most popular area for student accommodation amongst those attending the University of Aberdeen. Student lets in Old Town tend to be located just of the ‘Spital’ or Bedford Road, in an area just south of the campus.
Plenty choose to move further afield and move into student flats in Seaton or Tillydrone, however – especially up on Great Northern Road or just off King Street. In fact, anywhere within 10-15 minutes’ walk of the university will tend to be a hub for student accommodation; looking around for an area that suits you is paramount.
