Balerno is a small village situated 8 miles south west of Edinburgh City Centre. It is attractive to propective residents thanks to the ‘Water of Leith’, which runs past the village and the proximity Pentland Hills, which lie to the south. Balerno is bordered by Currie and Riccarton.
Balerno is connected to Edinburgh via regular buses or its location near the city bypass. Alternatively, the Water of Leith runs through the city via Murrayfield and Leith.
There are several schools available within Balerno’s catchment, including Balerno High School, Dean Park Primary School, Currie High School and Currie Primary School. Balerno is also a suitable for students attending Heriot Watt University which resides nearby in neighbouring Riccarton, though most students prefer living closer to the city centre.
Balerno is close enough to Edinburgh for a reasonably quick commute into town, but those looking to live in a suburb to the city would be best suited switching their property search to within the city bypass. Consider Colinton, Portobello or Mortonhall.
