Colinton is a suburb of Edinburgh, situated approximately 6 kilometres from the city centre. It is bordered by Wester Hailes and Kingknowe to the north, with Stenhouse beyond that. Notable features of the area include the Water of Leith which runs straight through the centre, and the Pentland Hills directly to the south.
There are several schools nearby to Colinton, as it is mainly a residential area aimed at families. These include Colinton Primary School, Oxgangs Primary School and Firhill High School; whilst private education is provided by Merchiston Castle School, George Watson College and Colinton Private Nursery.
The area can be attractive to students as well, mainly due to the proximity of Edinburgh Napier University’s Craiglockhart Campus. The Merchiston campus and other universities in Edinburgh are further afield though, so most students tend to choose to live closer to Marchmont.
There are several golf clubs nearby to Colinton including Kingsknowe Golf Club, Baberton Golf Club and Kings of Merchants Golf Club, further enhancing the range of outdoor pursuits on offer near to the area. The Midlothian Snowsports Centre, with its dry ski slope visible from most of the city, is also a short distance from Colinton.
Transport into and around the rest of the city is pretty simple thanks to Edinburgh’s impressive bus network, and property in the district tends to be affordable but high quality similar to Trinity in the city’s northern half.
