Liberton and Gilmerton are two suburban districts located to the south of the Edinburgh, outside of the city itself but inside the City Bypass (similar to other suburbs like Colinton, at the foot of the beautiful Pentland Hills). They are bordered by Inch and Craigmillar, as well as each other.
There are several nurseries, as well as primary and secondary schools within easy access from a property in either Liberton or Gilmerton. The King’s Buildings and Little France Campus of the Edinburgh University are situated within walking distance in Blackford and Craigmillar respectively, but most students prefer to be closer to the main campus in areas like Sciennes.
Both suburbs are well served by local amenities with a number of shops, bars and restaurants nearby. As well as this, Straiton Retail Park is also located a short drive from the area and hosts a number of high street shops as well as a large Sainsbury’s Supermarket and M&S Food.
Situated nearby, the Gracemount Leisure Centre offers a range of fitness classes, a gym and a swimming pool. There are also a number of golf courses easily accessible from the area.
Both Liberton and Gilmerton tend to attract fairly affluent renters, and the property there reflects that fact. If you’re looking to the suburbs of Edinburgh for affordable property, you might be better off searching in Gyle or Sighthill.
