The University of Strathclyde is a venerable institution in its own right, having been found in 1796 (but not getting the full Royal Charter until 1964 – the first technological university to do so). Despite being the second biggest of the Glasgow institutions, it is still a massive university with around 30,000 students and staff studying at ‘The Place of Useful Learning’.
Its urban campus in the middle of Glasgow’s city centre make Strathclyde an easy university to reach, so your choice of student accommodation in the city is varied. The abundance of student lets around the West End, serving the University of Glasgow, make it a popular area for students of all of Glasgow’s main institutions. Those wanting to be closer to campus may choose to find a student flat in nearby Merchant City, just to the south in the very centre of Glasgow. Merchant City has a lot to offer in terms of convenience and nightlife, but those looking to quietly get on with studies may want to search outside of the city centre.
Students coming from outside the city are well served by Glasgow Queen Street station, which is just minutes’ walk from the John Anderson Campus or by High Street Station on the other side. You may also get to the campus via the M8 Motorway which runs close by, as is Glasgow’s famous George Square.
